A diferencia de juegos anteriores de Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Heroes por primera vez permite al jugador poder controlar 3 personajes al mismo tiempo. El jugador elije uno de los cuatro equipos que hay. Los cuatros equipos tienen sus propias fortalezas y debilidades, como también la tienen cada uno de los personajes. Sonic Heroes fue el primer juego de Sonic en introducir el concepto de "Velocidad, Vuelo, y Fuerza" ("Speed, Flight, and Power"). Un equipo está integrado por tres personajes, cada uno cumple una tarea específica. Los tres tipos de personajes son "vuelo", "velocidad", y "fuerza." El tipo de vuelo es el que permite ascender cortas distancias con otros miembros del equipo. El tipo de velocidad tiene la habilidad de moverse más rápido que los otros dos miembros del equipo. Finalmente, el personaje de poder es el que más fuerza tiene de los tres. Estas habilidades deben ser combinadas con la de los demás para poder avanzar de nivel. Cuando el equipo esta en la formación de "Velocidad", los integrantes se paran formando un triángulo (el personaje veloz estará al frente, y los otros dos personajes detrás y un poco a su costado). Cuando se pulsa el botón de ataque, los personajes de Vuelo y Fuerza se acercan al personaje de Velocidad, se enrolla en una bola. Al soltar el botón de ataque, el personaje de Velocidad impulsa hacia adelante. Cuando el equipo esta en la formación de "Fuerza", los integrantes se paran en línea recta, uno al lado del otro con el personaje de "Fuerza" en el medio. Al presionar el botón de ataque en esta formación, los dos miembros del grupos se acercan al personaje de "Fuerza." En el Team Dark y el Team Sonic, los personajes "Velocidad" y "Vuelo" se enrollan en una bola y son agarrados (uno en cada mano) por el personaje de fuerza. El el Team Chaotix, Espio y Charmy se enrollan en una bola y son mantenidos en la boca de Vector. En el Team Rose, Amy y Cream se sientan en los hombros de Big.Links de Descarga:
